A fairly new concept in family history research is DNA testing.
You can order kits online that are done using a swab in your cheek, so it is painless. The cost can be between 100 and 400 dollars. It can provide you with a lot of information.
DNA testing can:
* Verify if two people are related
* Determine if two people descend from the same ancestor
* Find out if you are related to others with the same surname
* Prove or disprove your family tree research
* Give clues about your ethnic origin
Since this is not a cheap test maybe your family members can chip in to help you.
This too, is not something I would do during early research. I would wait until I have a lot of information and have possibly hit a brick wall.
There are many websites that offer information on DNA Testing. Click Here for more information.
